I should have said ‘back to Melbourne airport’ I used to think it was a good little airport, sensibly laid out with the two domestic terminals on each side of, and withing walking distance of, the international terminal. I might be a bit biased because early in my working life I helped to build Tullamarine, as it was known then.
Last night when I arrived it was not at its best, with the arrivals hall partly closed off, and access to one of the domestic terminals closed. I guess everything needs to be renewed, but I wonder what this will achieve.
I am only here as my late flight arrival doesn’t coincide with the non-existent rail service from the airport, and I need to wait until after six in the morning before the first train goes up my way from the city. I decided that the airport would be more pleasant, and warmer, to stay at than the railway station.

And so the trip ends …
