Oh, the irony …

For someone who started their career training as a communications technician I have more difficulties with SIM cards than anyone I know. This trip is no exception …

I intially ordered a SIM from a Belgian based company with time enough, just, for it to be delivered to me before I left for Europe. To make things easier and more likely to happen I gave them a delivery address in Vienna to make sure it would connect with me. I was not too surprised when it wasn’t there and I managed without a SIM for a few days, until I was in Znojmo.

There I bought a T-mobile SIM, figuring that T was well known and I was assured it worked in other EU countries …

Well, back in Austria it wasn’t happy and I eventually changed to a 3 (Drei) SIM and a new number. Three is part of Hutchinsons and is a recommended card for business use in England and Europe. Plus I have used Three before in the UK and it was good. Except … that it doesn’t work too well in France, and despite being assured that it would not expire and that I could top it up, recharge it or whatever, it did and I couldn’t. Yesterday I went into Avignon to see about another SIM, to SFR, a major French company who have a product called RED, which is actually green, but never mind. It was Monday – the store was closed.
