Looking for a place to stay in Lyon I came across a small, attic apartment on AirBNB, it was not too far from the main railway station – Lyon Part-Dieu – and seems to have good transport connections. So I booked, it was in a suburb called Villeurbanne, and as it happened, my hosts were away for a few days so I had the place to myself.
That had plusses as well as minuses, everyone’s TV setup seems to be different these days, it’s not just a case of turning it on and changing channels any more! It did mean I could set my own schedules without considering others in the flat, and not have to think about keeping too tidy!
I wandered the suburb taking pictures, and found some quiet alleyways with interesting views. Lyon itself was five minutes walk away and as my visit was partly on a weekend, lots of things were closed (including the transport advice office, where I wanted a map and tickets and the Apple Store !)
I didn’t go the cathedral overlooking the city – I’d spent a day there previously – and I didn’t try and hire a bike again, the last time I did that I could almost have bought the bike for what it ended up costing me.
