I had wanted to visit Geneva – Genève to give it the local spelling – for a while, the United Nations is headquartered there, and there is the lake, Lac Leman, and its steamships. Warned that it could be expensive I settled for an AirBNB in Ambilly, across the border in France and a short tram ride into the Swiss city.

Travelling by train from Munich we stopped en route at Lausanne, and the view from the train was spectacular …

I was visiting a church, one of many on my trip, when this thought came to me …
What do they think, these men of God, when their congregations dwindle
and the tourists arrive. When they amplify a small service to fill the church
with sound, and still the tourists wander through, taking pictures for the
future instead of absorbing the present.
When visiting churches, I have a self imposed policy of donating to whichever church it may be. A euro or two, perhaps more if I have taken printed matter … some churches ask for money, most don’t, but they all need it for keeping a roof over their heads.
