Annecy, sometimes known as the Venice of the Alps, is a lovely town and best of all, no cruise ships in the canal … actually the canal isn’t big enough to host cruise ships. A good friend of mine was there last year and she sent me some photos, I wanted to see for myself, of course, and the wind was blowing towards Annecy the day I caught a train.

There’s much more to it than the Vassè Canal, although water is everywhere, especially in the old town. While there are a lot of tourists there are also quiet places, shaded seats and a variety of shops, cafes and businesses. With all the water there was a wealth of industry there, mainly silk manufacturing.
I didn’t get to see all of the town by any means, and there are plenty of pictures from others online, I guess that means I need another trip!
