When I decided to get out of Salzburg for a short trip, I wasn’t aware that Mondsee was one of the locations for filming The Sound of Music. Nor did I know that there was a big cycling event on that weekend, or that my bed was quite that far from the town.

So we live and learn, hopefully, and having been there I can wholeheartedly recomment Mondsee and Gästehaus Pichler. The view of the Drächenwald from my balcony was stunning, and the lake itself was visible in the distance. The walk was comfortable, the hills were minor and the coffee in a little cafe in town was good.

I didn’t even get to paddle in the lake, the weekend was hot and there were a lot of folk in town. My host was very helpful and even drove me to the bus station at the end of my stay.

And I’ll have to hire the DVD when I get back, so I can see Mondsee again!
